Recap corner@DAS FEST
With corner < Science > to meet you!, science came to life at DAS FEST. Right in the heart of the festival, visitors engaged in conversation with representatives from KIT and had the opportunity to explore topics such as heat, urban climate, and livable cities.
“My highlight was seeing how naturally science and the festival audience came together at DAS FEST. To me, this shows that research shouldn’t remain at a distance – it has to reach out to people – especially at a music festival, where people simply enjoy being.” The discussions at the < Corner > and during the Science Slam were exactly that: science on an equal footing, right in the thick of things instead of just on the sidelines,” said Manuel Köcher, head of Knowledge Transfer at TRIANGEL Transfer | Kultur | Space.
“When people try out a thermal imaging camera with sparkling eyes, proudly wear a sticker tattoo featuring our research demonstrator ‘komorebi,’ design climate fans or UV bead necklaces – all while following the lead of our researchers, asking questions, and engaging in conversation with them – that’s when science comes to life. It’s moments like these that inspire me – and that’s exactly what we achieved with the Kronenplatz Effect project at corner@DAS FEST. Through our hands-on activities, we demonstrated how heat builds up in the city and is measured, and how research can help make urban spaces climate-resilient in the future.
This was made possible by the tremendous dedication of the staff in the Knowledge Transfer department and many researchers at KIT, who contributed their research topics, expertise, creativity, and commitment to share them with visitors. Supported by the DAS FEST team and numerous other contributors, we created a space where research was not only communicated but also experienced in an open and inspiring atmosphere.
It was especially wonderful for me to see how people stopped, listened, tried things out, and became enthusiastic about research. The special atmosphere at DAS FEST helped turn curiosity into interest, questions into conversations, and science into shared experiences. For me, this demonstrates the power of knowledge transfer: science makes its impact felt where people engage in conversation, learn from one another, and shape the future together,” said Laura Bosch, Project Manager for corner@DAS FEST.
