Mission of the Graduate School

Innovation often begins when disciplines cross – CuKnow trains researchers to work at the interfaces where new knowledge increasingly emerges by combining disciplinary excellence with interdisciplinary curiosity. Many of today’s scientific breakthroughs emerge at the interfaces between disciplines, where concepts, methods, and perspectives developed in one field create new insights in another. Yet most researchers are still trained primarily within disciplinary boundaries.

Through advanced training in methods, collaborative formats, engagement with societal stakeholders and a vibrant community of doctoral researchers and Principal Investigators, CuKnow prepares the next generation of scholars for conducting research in an interconnected world.

A cornerstone of the CuKnow program is the annual MayDay retreat. Bringing together doctoral researchers from across KIT, MayDay creates a space for the cross-utilization of knowledge and intellectual experimentation beyond disciplinary boundaries. Participants work on common challenges, discover unexpected connections between fields, and experience how cross-utilizing knowledge can spark new research ideas and collaborations.
