Visitors to the Wissenswoche Mensch X KI were able to experience an all-round knowledge shower. A combination of theory, debate and practice made the complex side of artificial intelligence, its field of application and how citizens can get involved tangible.

A matter of the heart: smart care instead of a cookie-cutter approach

The event kicked off with the short format MuT2Go. Mailah Khan, head of the INNOVARE project, presented her current research. It impressively demonstrates how AI can improve lives. The target is to adapt rehabilitation measures for chronic pain sufferers and cardiovascular patients holistically and individually. Instead of a "cookie-cutter" approach, working with AI enables a significant increase in quality of life and the possibility of a more agile return to work.

Opportunities and limits of the participatory campaign

The panel discussion "What do ruby tigers and devil's fingers have in common with AI" offered a little more time on the topic of citizen science and AI. The experts Dr. Judith Bieberich, Dr. Linda Nierling and geographer Thomas Breunig offered an exciting discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of hands-on activities such as the "BioBlitz Karlsruhe", which collects data on biodiversity in Karlsruhe with the help of citizens. Questions such as: What can we achieve by collecting the data, how can we use it concretely and is the "Bioblitz Karlsruhe" ultimately above all an enrichment for the users, who are given the opportunity to educate themselves in a simple way and have fun discovering new species.

Smart Science Night

BioBlitz-exploration-tour

Closing under the open sky

The following day, there was the opportunity to take part in the very first BioBlitz-exploration-tour. Guided by Dr. Judith Bieberich, Campus South offered sweet violets and lesser celandine, which can currently be found under trees that are still bare. There was a little amusement when the app mistook the paved ground for a common toad - it's good that humans still have a say here.

Be part of our next campaign - let's keep growing together!

To ensure that our research landscape continues to grow and flourish, we will continue to need your curiosity and your perspective. Join us again next time and if you are not yet part of the BiboBlitz Karlsruhe, you can find all the information here.
