corner < Science > to meet you! @ DAS FEST

With “corner < Science > to meet you!”, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) braught science about the urban climate to DAS FEST. Building on the findings of the Kronenplatz Effect project, visitors could discover how heat is generated in the city, how it’s measured, and what measures contribute to climate-resilient, livable cities. Interactive activities invited to get involved, to join the discussion, and experience science up close.

The “Kronenplatz Effect” intervention transformed Karlsruhe’s Kronenplatz into a reality lab for heat-adapted urban design in July 2026. Students, worked together with researchers, tested measures such as shading, greening, water mist, and new recreational spaces to improve the microclimate and the quality of the urban environment. Climate measurements, social science studies, and an interactive video installation demonstrated how heat is perceived in urban spaces and which measures can help cool public spaces. The project brings together science, design, and urban society to gain insights for climate-resilient cities.
