This blended-learning format consits of 3 modules. The modules will unlock one after another. In Modules 1 and 2, guest speakers will present their topics and answer questions posed by a moderator. Throughout these presentations, you will be invited to reflect on short questions. Please note: Before you start the first module, you will be invited to answer a short quiz to test your prior knowledge of Citizen Science. At the end of the MOOC, there will be a final assessment. You will have up to three attempts to complete it. Achieving a minimum of 80% correct answers will be required to receive a certificate indicating a basic understanding of the Citizen Science conceptual framework and project design. The course is graded on a pass/fail basis.

Module 1 (self-learning): “Introduction to Citizen Science - Conceptual Framework”

This module aims to give you basic notions on Citizen Science’s conceptual framework.

Module 2 (self-learning):  “Public Engagement”

This module aims to provide you with an understanding of the challenges, motivations, and key elements to be taken into consideration when citizens take part in a research project.

Module 3 (webinar):  “Designing a Citizen Science Project”

This is a practical module, in the form of a webinar. The aim is to introduce you to the process of designing a Citizen Science project.  At some point, it will no longer be possible to participate in the webinar (although you will still be able to follow the course).

Learning outcomes: This MOOC is primarily designed to give PhD students a foundational understanding of Citizen Science. By the end of the course, learners will not only be able to explain the concept of Citizen Science, but will also have practical tools to design a basic Citizen Science project.

Additional information:

Before starting the first module, you will be invited to answer a short quiz to test your prior knowledge of Citizen Science. At the end of the MOOC, there will be a 10-question quiz. Achieving at least 50% correct answers will grant a certificate indicating a basic understanding of the Citizen Science conceptual framework and project design. This course is graded on a pass/fail basis.
