Launch of the Human Subject Research Hub

Research with human participants is becoming increasingly important at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) - at the same time, the methodological, organizational and ethical requirements are increasing. With the first symposium "Human Subject Research for Impact" on January 20, 2026, KIT is setting a visible example for Science for Impact.
The event marks the launch of the Human Subject Research Hub (HSR Hub) and at the same time the completion of the KIT-funded Future Field III project "Decision-Making in Hybrid Adaptive Systems for Better Work and Life - An Open Science Approach".
The Human Subject Research Hub defines itself as "The Academic Backbone for Methodological Research, Knowledge & Processes" and aims to strategically strengthen Human Subject Research at KIT. The Hub is headed by Prof. Alexander Maedche and Prof. Petra Nieken, both members of the KIT Center Humans and Technology (MuT).
The results of two years of interdisciplinary research on the co-adaptation of humans and information systems will also be presented at the symposium.
A highlight of the event is the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Achim Wambach (President ZEW Mannheim) entitled "Attention, Overconfidence and Trust - Shaping Markets and Organizations through Co-design".
The symposium is an invitation to set new impulses, strengthen networks and shape the future of Human Subject Research at KIT together.
